His father had an American origin as he belonged to the State of Tennessee. He came to Korea for a small period of post-Korean War. Both of his parents got engaged in December 1959. When Scott was just nine years old, his family moved to America.
They eventually settled in San Jose, California, around 1973. He holds American nationality.
