Despite government pressure not to select him, he was included in the final World Cup roster.
Despite government pressure, Iran national team manager Carlos Queiroz selected Azmoun in the final World Cup lineup. The Iranian authorities had placed pressure on him not to be included after he stated his support for the demonstrations following Masha Amini’s murder. According to Iranian FA guidelines, players were not allowed to speak out over the death of 22-year-old Masha Amini, but Azmoun disobeyed the regulations.
Masha Amini, 22, was detained in September for not wearing a hijab. She died later in police custody. According to witnesses and reports, she was savagely attacked by cops. The police, on the other hand, reported that Amini had a heart attack and then went into a coma. Following Amini’s killing, there were widespread demonstrations in which 304 demonstrators were killed by police brutality.
Azmoun turned to Instagram to express his support for the lady. He wrote that, at worst, he would be kicked off the national team, but that it wouldn’t matter if they did. He would give it all for a single hair on the heads of Iranian ladies. Queiroz, on the other hand, chose Azmoun despite the government’s wishes.
He declared his retirement because severe criticism of him harmed his mother’s health.
Azmoun confirmed his retirement after facing harsh criticism after Iran’s departure from the 2018 World Cup. His mother’s health deteriorated as a result of his performance comments, and he chose his mother above his profession. In a social media post, he revealed his intention to leave the national team, despite the fact that it is one of the most difficult and crucial life choices for him, a 23-year-old who overcame immense adversity to get there.
He went on to say that his mother had fought an illness, but that owing to the unkindness of certain people and the insults he and his teammates did not deserve, her disease had become serious, forcing him to choose between the two. He chose his mum. In October of that year, he returned to the national squad and was called up by Carlos Queiroz for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.
Iranian Messi is his nickname.
Azmoun is known as the Iranian Messi. Because of his outstanding performance in Sepahan’s youth ranks during the 2012-2013 season, he piqued the interest of Russian club Rubin Kazan. He relocated to Russia after accepting the Russian offer. He became Iran’s youngest Legionnaire in football history when he moved to Russia at the age of 17 and became the first Iranian player to play in the Russian Premier League.
His meteoric ascent in Iran, as well as his teams in the Russian League, earned him the moniker “Iranian Messi.” Azmoun previously said that his football does not resemble Messi’s at all, and he is perplexed as to why the name of a renowned Argentinian was chosen as his moniker. Aside from that, he is also known as Iranian Zlatan, and he picked this moniker since he enjoys his playing style.
Relationship
Azmoun has no wife since he has not yet married. He is most likely single. However, according to insiders, a Russian court ruled against him, and he has been dealing with the situation since a female in Russia claimed Azmoun was the father of her kid and filed a lawsuit for child support. The girl’s lawyer subsequently stated that the court had found in his client’s favor and that he was certain he was the father. According to him, the court has ordered the player to pay child support.
