Sam Horsfield made his amateur debut as a 16-year-old in 2013, when he became the youngest ever champion of the Florida State Amateur. Horsefield’s first golf experience would have been the 2015 Walker Cup at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club. He does, however, withdraw two weeks before the tournament. The English golfer did so in part because he was concerned about his immigration status.
He made a name for himself in 2016 by finishing second in the Western Amateur. Furthermore, he went on to win four times in college, including the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in 2016. He defeated European Tour pros Jon Rahm and Sean Crocker in the final. Later, with Mundy on the bag, he advanced to the final 16 of the US Amateur in 2016.
Horsfield also qualified for the European Tour Qualifying School for the first time since turning pro in 2017. In the Hero Open, he won for the first time on the European Tour. He was taking part in his 65th event. Similarly, in 2018, he finished fourth at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth and second at the Tshwane Open, two strokes behind George Coetzee.
