Madoc was born on April 16, 1943, in Norwich, England, and attended RADA in London. She began her career with a few films before receiving notoriety for her appearance in the program Poem and Pints. Ruth was well-known for her theater performances, in which she portrayed a variety of parts in numerous plays and musicals. She was cast as Gladys Pugh in the BBC comedy Hi-de-Hi!. Hi-de-Hi!, created by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, ran for nine seasons and 58 episodes from January 1, 1980, to January 30, 1988.
This Is Your Life, a biographical television documentary, portrays Ruth’s life. She later featured on a couple of reality series before winning I’m Famous and Frightened!
