Career
Russell Hodgkinson reenlisted in the Coast Guard throughout his service, joining the crew of the USCG Cutter Sassafras in Hawaii in 1986. In 1981, he co-starred with Mercedes McCambridge in a theater performance of ‘Harvey’ at the Fort Bragg Playhouse. He learned in the Honolulu Film Actor’s Workshop over his break hours before being switched to Long Beach, California, where he met his significant other actors Shelley Poncy. He appeared on ‘The Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour’ from 1983 to 1984.
In 1992, the couple relocated to Louisiana, where they eventually became stars on the New Orleans organization. Russell maintained his theatrical career and became very active in the independent cinema scene after moving to Seattle in 2003. He appeared on Leverage and Grimm before being cast as “Doc” on the Sci-Fi original series ‘Z Nation in 2014. He performed as Andrew Jackson with the Louisiana Living History Company.
