Rishi Kapoor Biography

Rishi Kapoor was born in a Punjabi household in Bombay, Maharashtra, India on 4 September 1952. Similarly, his father, Raj Kapoor, was an actor-director, and his mother, Krishna Raj Kapoor, was an actress. He was the family’s second child.

Similarly, Prithviraj Kapoor was the name of his grandpa. He had four brothers: Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor, both of whom were performers. And he had two sisters: Ritu Nanda, an insurance agent, and the late Rima Jain. Similarly, Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, his paternal uncles, and Prem Nath, Rajendra Nath, Narendra Nath, and Prem Chopra, his maternal uncles, were all actors.

Growing up in a household involved in the entertainment industry, he developed an early interest in performing. He also made his film debut at the age of three, in Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420.

With regards to his scholastic background, he attended Campion School in Mumbai and Mayo College in Ajmer with his brothers.

Rishi Kapoor Death

In 2018, Rishi Kapoor received a bone marrow cancer diagnosis. He sought treatment in New York City. Kapoor returned to India on 26 September 2019 following a successful year of medicine.

He was recently admitted to Mumbai’s Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital on 29 April 2020 for breathing difficulties. Regrettably, he passed away on 30 April 2020 at the age of 67 due to complications from bone marrow malignancy. His last rites were placed at Chandanwadi Crematorium, and his ashes were immersed in the Banganga.

Career

Regarding Rishi Kapoor’s acting career, he made his acting debut at the age of three with a role in his father’s film Shree 420. In 1970, he made his debut in his father Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Mera Naam Joker.’ He portrays his own father’s youth in the film. His father wished to make a film on a teenage love tale but lacked the funds to cast Rajesh Khanna. As a result, he was cast in the film. “In 1973, he co-starred with Dimple Kapadia in the film ‘Bobby.’ He became an instant hit with teenagers following the film’s release.

Subsequently, only 11 of his 51 solo cast pictures were box office successes, compared to 25 of his 41 multi-starrer features. Between 1974 and 1997, he directed 11 films with solo leads, with the remaining 40 films being box office flops. Bobby, Laila Majnu, Rafoo Chakkar, Honeymoon, Banjaran, Sargam, Karz, Prem Rog, Nagina, Heena, and Bol Radha Bol were among his eleven successful films.

He co-starred with his future wife Neetu Kapoor from 1974 to 1981, however, the pair did not perform as well as predicted. His films with Neetu Kapoor were all blockbusters, including Amar Akbar Anthony, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Khel Khel Mein, Kabhie Kabhie, and Duniya Meri Jeb Mein. His other lead roles with Neetu Kapoor were flops – Anjane Mein, Jhoota Kahin Ka, Zehreela Insaan, Zinda Dil, Doosara Aadmi, and Dhan Daulat.

In the 1990s, he appeared in successful films such as Deewana, Damini, and Eena Meena Dika. Similarly, his prominent roles in films include Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, Badalte Roshtey, Aap Ke Deewane, and Saagar. In 2012, he appeared in Agneepath as a villain and in the multi-starrer Housefull 2. He featured with brother Randhir Kapoor in Housefull 2 for the first time since ‘Khazana’ in the mid-1980s. He even appeared in a cameo role alongside his wife in Yash Chopra’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

In 2018, he acted in Umesh Shukla’s comedy-drama flick 102 Not Out. Additionally, in this film, he reconnected with Amitabh Bachchan after a 27-year separation.

In 2019, he starred in two films: Jhootha Kahin Ka, a comedy-drama film, and The Body, a mystery thriller film co-starring Emraan Hashmi. The Body, starring Emraan Hashmi, was released on 13 December 2019 and was, coincidentally, his final film prior to his death on 30 April 2020.
