Personal-life boundaries are jeopardized when one enters the entertainment industry, and private matters frequently become media headlines.
On the other hand, some celebrities manage to keep their family and personal issues out of the spotlight. Fredrick Jay Rubin, aka Rick Rubin, is a former co-president of Columbia Records. The eight-time Grammy winner has a girlfriend and a son, but they are barely mentioned in the press.
Rubin had his first fatherhood experience at the age of 54
The legendary record producer has a never-ending list of professional commitments. He has struggled to strike a work-life balance. He does, however, have a good love life with his girlfriend Murielle Hurtado Herrera. Herrera is a former model and actress who now farms in Malibu.
The couple, who have been dating since 2010, had their first child, a baby boy, in February 2017. They have yet to reveal the baby’s name. We don’t know much about the baby, but we did get to see his adorable face when Rubin and his family were spotted boarding a flight out of LAX in July of the same year.

The legendary artist and his family are currently residing in his mansion, which he refers to as “Malibu Oasis.” The mid-century ranch-style home, built-in 1965, was once owned by a non-famous family. However, since Rubin’s purchase, the property has become one of the most talked-about celebrity homes. The 2298-square-foot mansion is valued at $8.1 million.
Rubin spent a decade perfecting every detail of his family home after purchasing it in 2011. He needed to keep his family, especially their growing toddler, in a comfortable environment. The house has the ideal domestic chill environment and calmness for his ‘celebrity wife’ partner and their toddler.
In addition to family retreats, they host luncheons and gatherings with close friends at their homes. But how did a busy record producer create a comfortable environment for himself and his family? Rubin visited Malibu regularly in the 1990s, staying in the house he had rented for over a decade.
He later decided to stay in the area permanently because he fell in love with the atmosphere. After his rental contract expired in 2005, he purchased his 1-acre property and decided to make the city his permanent residence.
Aside from this property, he had purchased two other properties in nearby Malibu, unfortunately destroyed by Woolsey’s unforgiving fire in 2018. According to reports, one of his employees, Sean G, stayed on-site and watered the environment to protect the residing house from damage.
