Career

Genzel received his Ph.D. in physics from the Universities of Freiburg and Bonn in 1978. Later that year, at the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy, he completed his Ph.D. thesis in radioastronomy. Following that, he worked at Cambridge’s Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He was elected a Scientific Member of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft in 1986. He conducted a gravitational redshift study with his researcher’s group. Reinhard Genzel found three flares in the galactic center in 2018 and released a report describing its near neighborhood observation as well as its brightness outburst.
