Randall Herman Meisner (1911-2010) was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to parents Herman Meisner (1911-1995) and Emilie Meisner (1911-2010). Randall’s parents were farmers, and he had one older sister, Carol Meisner, who died in 2005. His father was a violin teacher, and his mother was always singing around the house, according to him.
He became interested in the guitar when he was ten years old after seeing an Elvis Presley show. He began taking guitar lessons and began playing in local bands. His teacher at Scottsbluff High School suggested he practice playing bass, and after giving it a shot, he discovered it came naturally to him.
