Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning British monarch, died on September 8, aged 96, bringing an end to her historic 70-year reign. The Royal Family issued an official announcement on social media announcing her death. The Queen died “peacefully” at her home at Balmoral, according to the statement. Another declaration from King Charles III said that his mother’s death was a source of profound grief for the family.
He also said that the Queen’s death will be “deeply felt across the nation, the Realms, and the Commonwealth,” as well as by “countless individuals” throughout the world. The Queen died soon after appointing Liz Truss as the newly elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on Tuesday. The late queen is said to have had many health concerns in recent months and has been residing at her Balmoral estate owing to “mobility issues.”

The Queen also postponed a virtual meeting with her Privy Council before her death, and an official statement said that physicians were worried about her health:
“Following additional examination this morning, Her Majesty’s physicians are worried about her health and have suggested that she stay under medical observation.”
Queen Elizabeth II was promptly replaced by her eldest son, King Charles III, who became the oldest person to hold the British throne. The former’s death comes almost a year after her 73-year-old husband, Prince Philip, died in June 2021.

Queen Elizabeth II was born on April 21, 1926, during the reign of her grandfather, King George V, to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (then Duchess of York) and King George the VI (then Duke of York). She shared her childhood with her only sister, Princess Margaret, who was born in 1930. When the Queen was a teenager, she allegedly met her future husband, Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark. Their engagement was formally announced on July 9, 1947, and the royal couple married on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey. The Queen was a proud mother of four.
On November 14, 1948, she gave birth to her first child with Prince Philip, Prince Charles. Princess Anne, their second child, was born on August 15, 1950. Prince Andrew, their third child, was born on February 19, 1960, and Prince Edward, their fourth child, was born on March 10, 1964. Princess Anne and Captain Mark Philips’ children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugene, and Prince Edward and Countess Sophie’s children Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn James were all grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II.
Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince George, Savannah Phillips, Isla Phillips, Mia Tindall, Lena Tindall, Lucas Philip Tindall, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, and Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi were among the Queen’s 12 great-grandchildren.
