Daniel Craig, the English actor, has been named a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George, the same title bestowed to his iconic fictional character James Bond. The 54-year-old actor earned the distinction from late Queen Elizabeth II’s daughter, Princess Anne, on Tuesday, October 18, during an investiture ceremony conducted at Windsor Castle for his contributions to cinema and theater. The news was made through The Royal Family’s official Twitter account, which tweeted a photo of Craig with the film’s classic line.

When King George IV was still Prince Regent in 1818, he founded the CMG order. In the British honors system, it is the sixth most senior award. The CMG is often awarded to men and women who hold prominent positions or who give exceptional or substantial non-military service to the United Kingdom in a foreign nation. It may, however, be bestowed on those who have rendered important or loyal service in international and Commonwealth affairs.

Daniel Craig appeared as the 007 agents with the late Queen Elizabeth II in the opening montage of the London Olympic Games 2012. In the footage, Daniel Craig’s character, James Bond, is called to Buckingham Palace to accompany the Queen out of the palace and to the Olympic Games. The stunt doubles are then shown leaping out of a helicopter and parachuting into the arena.
According to Hello! Magazine, Angela Kelly, the Queen’s aide, writes in her book in 2019 about how she offered the concept to the late queen filmmaker Danny Boyle.
“I recall Danny’s surprise that I would approach Her Majesty very quickly, but there’s no use in hanging about with these things: if she answered no, that was the end of it.”
She added that the Queen was “extremely delighted” and agreed to the concept right away, but she wanted more than simply her presence on film.
“I then inquired if she wanted a speaking role. ‘Of course, I must say something,’ Her Majesty said without hesitation. After all, he is on his way to save me.'”
Daniel Craig has played James Bond in five films, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006 and ending with No Time To Die in 2021. In 1992, he made his acting debut as Sgt. Botha in The Power of One. Craig went on to appear in a number of films and television programs, including Anglo Saxon Attitudes, Zorro, Genghis Cohn, Our Friends in the North, The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Love & Rage, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Enduring Love, and Dream House.
