Philip Rosenthal began his career as an actor before transitioning into producing and writing. He started his career in the early 1980s. He wrote and produced series including Coach with Craig T. Nelson and the short-lived Baby Talk. His commercial breakthrough began in 1996 when he appeared in the comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, followed by Coach (1989) and The Simpsons Movie. (2007).

For Sony Pictures, the writer created and directed the documentary film Exporting Raymond. Rosenthal travels across the globe to examine culinary culture for PBS’s I’ll Have What Phil’s Having in 2015.
