Pete grew up in the California town of Greenbrae. He graduated from Redwood High School in Larkspur, California, with a bachelor’s degree. He, too, is 73 years old.

Pete was frustrated in high school sports because he lacked physical improvement as a teenager despite being sporty as a child. As a freshman, he weighed only 50 kilograms. In order to try out for football, Pete needed to demonstrate a specific doctor’s clearance. In football, he could play a variety of positions. Career

Pete was elected to the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995.

Pete was hired as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas in 1977 after working with Pacific. He was assigned greater duties and responsibilities as an assistant in Arkansas than he was in the Pacific. He went on to work as an assistant professor at Iowa State University and North Carolina State University after Arkansas.
