Perry Mattfeld wanted to be a ballet dancer at first. And her family supported her in this attempt by putting her under the tutelage of the well-known actress/dancer Debbie Allen. Allen would cast Mattfeld in other shows over the following nine years, including Ms. Allen’s World Premiere musical and Alex in Wonderland. She succeeded at every chance she was given and, by the age of 12, was a full-time ’employee’ of Mattel’s American Girl Dolls singing company.
The ballet dancer turned wannabe actress made her television debut in Disney’s The Wizards of Waverly Place (2009). She immediately followed with Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader (2012) and Escape from Polygamy (2013). Before 2017, her portfolio was mostly geared toward children and young people. Her debut appearance in an adult-oriented production was as Mel in Shameless (2017-2018), which drew the attention of others.
