Peng Shuai Biography
Peng Shuai was born on 8 January 1986, in Xiangtan, Hunan, China. According to astrology, her sign is Capricorn. Zhang Bing is her mother’s maiden name, and Peng Jijun, her late father, was a police officer.
Tennis was introduced to her by her uncle when she was eight. He was a well-known tennis coach in China, and her uncle was his protege. At 13, she was found to have a cardiac condition.

It was at the age of 15 years and four months that she won her first singles title at Baotou, a $10k tournament, after entering as a wildcard and defeating her countrywoman Sun Tiantian in the semifinals 6–1. In July, she won her second International Tennis Federation (ITF) competition of the year. Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated her in the first round of her WTA Tour debut in Shanghai in October as a wildcard. Wildcard entry and victory over Sun Tiantian in the quarterfinals saw her win her first singles title at a $10,000 event early in June 2001, at the age of 15 and four months old. In July, she claimed her second ITF title of the year. When she was a wildcard on the WTA Tour in Shanghai in October, Tamarine Tanasugarn knocked her out in the first round. To “fly alone,” Peng departed the Tianjin Tennis Team, a Chinese government-run training program, in 2005. She and three other players threatened to cease playing if they didn’t receive what they wanted.
In January 2005, Peng won all three qualifying matches in Sydney. In January 2008, Peng ranked No. 45, beat No. 1 seed Ana Ivanovic in the semifinals. Before losing in three sets to Venus Williams at the Tier-II Bangalore Open, she won the doubles title. China’s Peng Shuai competed in both of the 2012 Summer Olympics’ female tennis events. She was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying by British wildcard Samantha Murray Sharan. Her last match was in February 2020, at the Qatar Total Open in Doha.
