- Pauline joined politics in 1994 and served as an Ipswich City Councillor until 1995, when administrative changes necessitated early elections. She was defeated in her re-election bid.
- She joined the Liberal Party of Australia in 1996 and ran as the Liberal candidate for the House of Representatives from Oxley in the federal elections that year. The party quickly disendorsed her, and after winning, she ran for parliament as an independent candidate.
- In her inaugural address, she emphasized the themes of race and immigration. She believed that Australia’s lax immigration policies resulted in fewer work opportunities for its citizens. She said other ethnicities and cultures are encroaching on Australia while providing nothing in return.
