Career
As a Georgetown student-athlete, Ewing quickly advanced to the position of team captain. Because of his leadership, the Georgetown Hoyas advanced to the NCAA tournament championship game three of the four years Ewing was on the team. The Hoyas won the NCAA title in 1984. In the same event, Ewing was named the tournament’s Outstanding Star, defeating experienced star Hakeem Olajuwon. Ewing tried out for the United States Olympic basketball team again that year. He was acknowledged this time as a part of the team that won the gold medal that year.
Ewing maintained his promise to his mother to complete high school. He passed down multiple lucrative sponsorships and professional ball possibilities until his graduation in 1985. That year, Ewing was in high demand by the National Basketball Association. After winning the Draft Lottery, Ewing was selected first overall by the New York Knicks.
Patrick Ewing joined the Seattle SuperSonics from the New York Knicks in 2000. After a year with the Sonics and another with the Orlando Magic, he announced his retirement.
