The Apollo 11 mission influenced space-age couture.

Space-age fashion was launched in the 1960s as a result of the success of the Apollo 11 mission. Paco Rabanne was recognized for the fashion genre that became famous due to its distinctive materials. Andre Courreges was the first fashion designer to popularize the style. Courreges created moon boots, short and straight skirts, and extraterrestrial-inspired eyewear out of PVC pipes and plastic. Pierre Cardin also introduced the Cosmos collection, which included light bulb-shaped wool gowns, feathery headgear, and circular ruby-red raincoats. Cardin told the New York Times in 2010 that he wanted to develop something relevant to the future and to see women living without limits.
