Nicola Walker Compared Marriage To Acting

Perhaps you’ve heard someone describe their wedding as the most beautiful day of their lives. How frequently have you heard them compare it to going to work? That is precisely how British actress Nicola Walker felt while preparing for her marriage.

Nicola Walker Discusses Why She Married

Walker’s interview with Radio Times (via Independent) was one of the few times she discussed her wedding publicly. However, she warned listeners from the start that this would not be a romantic story. So much so that she considered lying. To begin, she revealed why she married Barnaby Kay, a fellow actor. She spilled the beans nearly two decades after her wedding, revealing that she married for the sole purpose of providing security for her son, Harry Kay.

Nicola Walker Makes a Comparison Between Her Work and Her Wedding

Further into the interview, she confirmed that the entire wedding ceremony felt like going to work for her. She even made a comparison between her wedding and her profession to justify her statement, which could have become contentious otherwise. She listed, “Putting on a lovely dress and makeup, learning lines, having someone do your hair,” she said before adding, “I can see how appealing that would be if you don’t do it for a living.” “This is a public performance,” she asserted. Given her statement, it was easy to imagine Walker being disinterested in the idea of a grand wedding.

Rather than hosting a lavish event with a star-studded guest list, the actress opted for a “tiny family thing.”

Nicola Walker Was Afraid of Not Finding Work Following Her Pregnancy.

Charlotte Cripps once wrote for the Independent that Walker possessed a no-nonsense demeanor, similar to the majority of her characters, which is undoubtedly true based on her interview. In the same interview, Walker discussed her fear of losing her job after becoming a mother.

While her post-pregnancy hiatus remains one of the longest in her career, her fears never materialized, as she was back on set six months after her baby boy was born.

Indeed, she shot Spooks’ fifth season while pregnant, concealing her baby bump behind files. She’d officially left the show following the birth of her son, but she didn’t stay long.

Returning to Show Business Following Pregnancy

Following her departure from the show, she met with producer Jane Featherstone to arrange for her to meet baby Harry. As the meeting drew to a close, Featherstone expressed her appreciation for Walker.

According to Walker, the conversation went something like this: “And I said, ‘I miss you so much!’ “Do you wish to return?” she inquired. And I replied, ‘Yes, I truly do.’

That concluded the discussion. She returned to the show. However, she admitted that she would never sign on to a show of that nature again due to her agent’s dissatisfaction with how it all transpired. From that point forward, she began receiving an unexpected amount of work. So much so that she struggled to manage her workload both emotionally and professionally.
