Wickramasinghe studied music with Vincent Somapala and Ananda Jayasinghe. In 1959, she sang her debut song for Radio Ceylon’s ‘Amateur Voice’ program. She opted to retire early in 1998 after 23 years of teaching in several schools, including an eight-year spell at Visakha Vidyalaya in Colombo. Wickramasinghe was diagnosed with severe abdominal cancer and survived.
