Natasha Bianca Lyonne Braunstein was born on April 4, 1979, in New York City, New York, to Aaron Braunstein and Ivette Buchinger. Her father was a promoter of boxing, a race car driver, and a radio host. Lyonne was raised in an orthodox Jewish home because her parents came from orthodox Jewish families. She spent her first eight years of life in Great Neck, New York, but her parents later relocated to Israel for one and a half years. During her time in Israel, she appeared in the children’s film April Fools, which sparked her interest in acting.
Lyonne’s parents divorced later, and she, her older brother Adam, and her mother moved back to America. Lyonne went to The Rabbi Joseph H. Lookstein Upper School Of Ramaz, a private Jewish school where she was a scholarship student who took honors Talmud classes and read Aramaic. She was later expelled from school for selling marijuana on campus.
Lyonne grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where she felt like an outcast, but her mother later relocated the family to Miami, where she attended Miami Country Day School.
