Moira Kelly began performing during her high school years. In 1984, she played a minor role in her high school’s production of “Annie.” The girl playing Miss Hannigan was replaced due to illness, resulting in a sequence of cast changes that led to her career choice. Kelly, a devoted Catholic, was forced to choose between performing and pursuing her childhood ambition of becoming a nun.

In the 1991 miniseries “Love, Lies, and Murder,” she played Cinnamon Brown. She also made her feature film debut in Juan José Campanella’s drama thriller “The Boy Who Cried Bitch.” She sought her priest for permission to participate in an explicit sex scene when she was cast as Donna Hayward in “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” (1992).

That same year, she co-starred with D. B. Sweeney in the romantic comedy “The Cutting Edge” and performed two characters in the biographical “Chaplin,” including Oona O’Neill Chaplin.
