He is best known for his Netflix comedy special Mo Amer: The Vagabond and for being one-third of the comedy trio Allah Made Me Funny. He also co-starred in the Hulu sitcom “Ramy” for two seasons, alongside comedian Ramy Youssef.

Mohammed Amer was born on July 24, 1981, in Kuwait under the name Mohammed “Mo” Mustafa Amer. His nationality is Kuwaiti-American, and he is of Palestinian descent, so his ethnicity is Mixed. He is the youngest of six siblings. As a result, he has five siblings. His father worked for the Kuwait Oil Company as an engineer. Amer, his sister Haifa, his brother, and his mother fled Kuwait during the Gulf War in October 1990, when he was nine years old. They immigrated to America and settled in Houston, Texas. His father, a telecom engineer, joined them in the United States in 1992.
Amer attended Piney Point Elementary School while his older brothers studied abroad. His father died in 1995 when he was 14 years old. Omar, one of his brothers, is a pilot, and Amer (who later changed the family name to Najjar) has a Ph.D. in biochemistry. As of 2024, he is 42 years old.
He became a US citizen in 2009, allowing him to travel to Palestine and see family he hadn’t seen in nearly 20 years. He also visited Kuwait and Baghdad for the first time since fleeing with his family.
