Muhammad, her father, married four times but never married her mother, Patricia Harvell. While married to his second wife, Khalilah Ali, he was having an adulterous affair with her mother. Miya’s parents divorced without exchanging vows after her birth.

Muhammad has nine children from various partnerships, and Miya was his fourth kid. Ali married Sonji Roi, a cocktail waitress recommended to him by his long-time manager, Herbert Muhammad. Ali proposed to her after their first date, and they married a month later, in August 1964. Their marriage terminated two years later due to Roi’s unwillingness to join the Nation of Islam. In August of the following year, Ali married his second wife, Belinda Boyd, who eventually changed her name to Khalilah Ali. Ali’s constant adultery caused his second and third marriages to actress Veronica Porche to terminate in divorce before settling with his fourth wife, Yolanda “Lonnie” Williams, in 1986. He and Porche have two children, Hana and Laila. In 1986, he adopted a five-month-old son named Asaad Amin with his fourth wife, Yolanda.
Miya didn’t understand her father was renowned until 1996.
During an interview with Marchon FilmFest, Miya discussed her upbringing as the daughter of a boxing legend. She said that she did not understand how well-known her father was until 2012. According to Miya, she felt she had a typical childhood and that everyone did. Though she was aware of what her father accomplished, it was not until 1996 that she realized the significance of who her father was. When her father lighted the Olympic torch in Atlanta in 1996, she understood how well-known he was. She said she thought “wow, that’s wonderful” when she observed others sobbing during the event.
Her father, she said, was a giver. He loved people and children and accomplished so much that remained unnoticed and unnoticed. He’d bring the homeless folks home. She remembered what he used to say:
“What you do on Earth is the rent you pay to enter paradise,”
Miya spoke about her dyslexic childhood
Miya was dyslexic as a child, and it hindered her development. In an interview with WWLTV in 2017, she revealed that as a youngster, she always believed she was slower than other kids. When she started college, she was tested for a variety of things, and she discovered she had a sort of dyslexia.
When she went to read, her eyes would leap all over the page,. Even though she understood how to read and what the word was, she found it difficult to get through the page. Miya said that she was bullied as a youngster, which made her feel uneasy. She does not want children to go through what she did as a youngster, thus she is working on a Dyslexia awareness initiative to decrease the harmful impacts of the disease. On October 2, 2017, she participated in the first Dyslexia diagnostic day. Miya’s marital status is unclear, although she is the mother of her 28-year-old son Michael. Miya continues to share photos of her kid on Instagram. She’s also a grandmother.
