Decades ago, Mark-Paul Gosselaar fired his mother
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg, the Dutch-American actor discussed why he let go of his mother as his manager. According to Gosselaar, it was common for children to have their parents as managers. According to the actor, that happened to him as well.
However, the issue arose when the Saved By The Bell actor realized he was missing out on opportunities due to his mother’s incompetence as a manager. He revealed that his fellow actors were receiving strategic opportunities and professional assistance from their managers in meetings and auditions, but he was not.
After a while, the then-19-year-old actor had had enough and fired his mother. He fired his mother because the distinction of her being a parent rather than a professional made his job easier and more manageable for him.
In general, the actor spoke fondly of his parents and childhood. However, once he began monitoring and controlling his career-related decisions, he ran into some serious problems with his parents.
Following his marriage to former model Lisa Ann Russell in 1996, the actor severed contact with her due to financial and professional disagreements. Russell, his wife, had a different viewpoint and decided not to pass judgment on his parents because, in her opinion, they raised him to be a wonderful man. In response to her son’s behavior, his mother, Paula, expressed her grief to People in 1998.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar has reconciled with his mother
The Gosselaar family feud has lasted more than two decades. However, the actor’s mother’s Facebook posts suggested that his relationship with his parents had changed. In a video posted on the YouTube channel The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on September 30, 2015, the actor spoke fondly of his mother and said they’d moved on from their old feuds.
‘Saved by the Bell’ reminiscences
In a July 2021 episode of Zack to the Future, the actor reflected on his time on Saved by the Bell and his “undeniable on-screen chemistry with fellow cast member Leah Remini.” Even though fans were on Team Zack and Kelly and he had a bond with Tiffani, Gosselaar stated that he had the most chemistry with Remini.
“In my opinion, there isn’t a single person that Zack comes into contact with who has the chemistry that you and I had,” Gosselaar said as they parted ways.
