Michael Henry was born on November 7, 1965, in Pontiac, Michigan, to artist parents, and grew up in Virginia. His parents divorced when he was six years old, and he was raised solely by his mother. Life was difficult for him, and he attended a nearby Collegiate School on a scholarship. He later attended Washington and Lee University, where he earned a B.A. in history in 1988.
He was interested in comedy, but he didn’t think he could make a career out of it, so he passed it up. He began his career in advertising before moving to California to pursue an acting career. He began performing stand-up comedy after taking classes at the Grounding Theatre.
