Michelle Visage was born on September 20, 1968, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the United States, where she was raised. While her nationality is American, she is of Hungarian and Irish descent. Michelle Visage was born to Joanne Shupack Lewis and was later adopted by Arlene Carol and Martin H. Shupack.
Michelle attended South Plainfield High School in South Plainfield, New Jersey. She later enrolled in the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in Manhattan. Michelle Visage won the Madonna look-a-like competition when she was 16 years old.
