She won gold in the women’s singles event, followed by gold in the doubles tournament with Alexandra Bruce. As a result of her achievement, she was appointed Team Ontario’s flag bearer at the games’ closing ceremony.
Later that year, in the 2011 Pan American Games, Li and Bruce won gold in the women’s doubles event. Furthermore, at the 2012 Summer Olympics, Bruce and Li finished last in the round-robin part of the women’s doubles tournament, losing all three of their matches.
They qualified to the quarterfinals after defeating Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran of Australia. In addition, Bruce and Li finished fourth, the best Canadian performance in badminton at the Olympics.
In 2013, Li reached the finals of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold, defeating Hong Kong’s top player Yip Pui Yin in the semi-finals, becoming the first Pan-American athlete to do so since the series began in 2007.
She was also the first Canadian player in 35 years to reach the quarter-finals of the All England Open Badminton Championships Super Series Premier in 2014, after defeating Tai Tzu-Ying in the opening round.
Later same year, Li won the Canada Open Grand Prix, becoming the first home player to do so since the tournament was elevated to the Grand Prix level. Li successfully defended her Pan American Games title in 2015, defeating fellow Canadian Rachel Honderich in the final.
