Career
Bevan played with the New South Wales Blues for most of his domestic career until joining the Tasmanian Tigers in 2004–05. He has also represented South Australia and the English counties of Yorkshire, Leicestershire, and Sussex.
Bevan made his One Day International debut for Australia in the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup in Sharjah. Similarly, on New Year’s Day 1996, he scored one of his most memorable “anchor” innings against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He represented Australia in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
Bevan was injured when the 2003 World Cup began, but he made his debut in the group stage against India. He took the field against England in the last group game with Australia down 48–4. Andy Bichel then joined him at 135–8, still needing 70 runs to win. Australia won the final over with Bevan on 74 not out and Bichel on 34 not out.
The Super Six stage was similarly unbeaten following an undefeated group stage. He scored 56 against New Zealand, batting with Bichel, to assist Australia in reversing an 84–7 deficit. He was not expected to bat in the final, which Australia won, following an unlucky golden duck against Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
On January 17, 2007, Bevan announced his retirement from cricket, citing injuries as the reason. In January 2011, he was appointed coach of the Indian Premier League’s Kings XI Punjab.
