Season 17 of America’s Got Talent (AGT) concluded on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. This season’s winner was the Lebanese dancing ensemble Mayyas. They not only won the championship but earned $1 million and the chance to perform in the America’s Got Talent live performance at the Luxor Hotel on the Las Vegas strip.
Mayyas’ triumph was widely celebrated on Twitter since they were one of the fan-favorite groups on AGT Season 17. During the tryouts, the dance ensemble got Sofia Vergara’s golden buzzer and gave fantastic performances throughout the season. This season of the famous reality talent competition included a plethora of competitors from all backgrounds who demonstrated great abilities in many creative forms, dazzling judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Howie Mandel, and Heidi Klum. A look back at Mayyas’ experience on AGT Season 17.
Mayyas made their AGT debut with the intention of shattering the prejudices that surround Arab women. Nadim Cherfan, their choreographer, said ahead of their audition that Lebanon is not a nation where people can establish a profession out of dancing, and that this atypical route is much more difficult for women. The group came onto the stage with complete confidence in their routine for the audition round. When the judges inquired what they might anticipate from their performance, the women claimed that their dance would enchant everyone. The ensemble earned rousing acclaim from the live studio audience, as well as a standing ovation from all of the judges, after their performance. While Sofia said it was the most beautiful and inventive dance she had ever seen, Howie stated:
“You know, you said you’d hypnotize us, and as we sat here and saw the movement and perfection, and the amount of work and effort that went into it, we were hypnotized by what you accomplished.”

Maya’s favorite part of the show was when Sofia Vergara declared she wanted to inspire more women via their performance and then punched the golden buzzer to send them directly to the qualifying semi-final round. The Lebanese dance team performed a dance performance recounting the narrative of the snake in the Garden of Eden in the semi-finals. The judges gave this act another standing ovation.
They then progressed to the finals, defeating other formidable opponents. The trio performed an “intricately planned dance sequence including gigantic feathers to create the appearance of a garment on the lead dancer” in the finals performance, which was broadcast on Tuesday, September 13.
The group’s spectacular performance captivated both the crowd and the judges. As a consequence, they were named AGT Season 17 champions. Mayyas previously won Season 6 of Arab’s Got Talent and went on to become the first and only Middle Eastern dance group to compete in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions. With their success on AGT this season, they have earned another feather to their crown, allowing them to pursue their goal even further.
