Mary Berry was born on March 24, 1935, in Bath, Somerset, to Margaret and Alleyne William Steward Berry. She is the second of three children in her family. She was diagnosed with polio when she was 13 years old, resulting in a twisted spine and a three-month hospital stay.
Mary Berry attended Bath High School before enrolling in college to study domestic science and earn a certificate in institutional and catering management.
