Mary Berry was born on March 24, 1935, in Bath, Somerset, to Margaret and Alleyne William Steward Berry. She is the second of three children in her family. She was diagnosed with polio when she was 13 years old, resulting in a twisted spine and a three-month hospital stay.
Mary Berry attended Bath High School before enrolling in college to study domestic science and earn a certificate in institutional and catering management. She also attended the Le Cordon Bleu School in France before working in a variety of kitchen-related jobs. She has published over 75 cookery books, and 650 recipes, and hosted television shows.
