Stewart decided to focus her energy on gourmet cooking after restoring the 19th-century farmhouse she had purchased, having trained herself by reading Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Stewart was released from prison on March 4, 2005, just days after NBC announced she would host two new shows: a daytime talk and how-to show and a spin-off of Mark Burnett and Donald Trump’s reality show The Apprentice. Stewart completed her sentence by serving five months of house arrest at her Bedford, New York, home.
