Marlee Matlin and her husband, police officer Kevin Grandalski, have been married for over three decades. On August 29, 1993, the pair married at the house of actor Henry Winkler. The First Meeting of Marlee Matlin and Her Husband
Matlin first encountered Grandalski on a Los Angeles street corner in June 1991, when the actress was shooting a scene for her NBC series Reasonable Doubts. Grandalski, for one, had no notion who Matlin was when he met her. He didn’t understand she was an actress until someone pointed her out to him. They ran into one other again seven months later, and it was then that they started flirting. The diva recalled the incident to People in March 1993, saying, “I checked him out.” Both subsequently fell in love with one other and started a relationship.
They went on their first formal date after committing to a romance in a hidden area in an L.A. park for a picnic lunch. On his birthday, February 13, 1993, he got down on his knees and gave her a three-carat diamond ring. She claimed she wanted “as many children as my uterus can take” when he proposed to her.
Marlee Matlin Was Supposed to Have a Thing for Cops
The actress grew up in Morton Grove, Illinois, as the youngest of three children raised by Don Matlin, a used-car salesman, and his wife, Libby, a jewelry saleswoman. She enjoyed watching The Streets of San Francisco, Mannix, and CHiPs there. Furthermore, she also pursued a degree in criminal justice and contemplated a career in police enforcement. She had a thing for police officers since she was a child for these reasons. Even Reasonable Doubts executive producer Robert Singer conceded as much in a People magazine.
Grandalski, on the other hand, has wanted to be a policeman since he was a youngster. He grew raised in Fresno, California, as the oldest of three children to Richmond Grandalski, a forestry worker, and Charlotte, a postmistress. When questioned about her long-held desire to become a policeman, the actress said, “Marrying one is better.”
