Career
Mari Manoogian formerly interned in the office of John Dingell and the US Missions to the UN. She began her career at the Office of English Language Programs before moving on to the Office of eDiplomacy at the US Department of State in Washington, D.C. Following that, in August of 2017, she began campaigning for election to the Michigan House of Representatives. Manoogian was endorsed by the political group Run for Something.
The next year, she beat Nicole Bedi, the 2016 Democratic contender for the 40th Congressional District, and won the Democratic primary. Former President Barack Obama and former U.S. Presidential Candidate Hilary Clinton both backed her during the main election. She beat former Michigan Republican Party vice chairman David Wilkinson by a margin of 56.5% to 43.4%. Mari won this time, switching the district for the first time in 22 years.
She was later chosen as one of seventeen speakers to offer the Keynote Address at the 2020 Democratic National Convention. Manoogian attends St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church. She favors renewable energy investment and opposes the state Senior Pension Tax.
