Manny Ramirez was born to Aristides and Onelcida Ramirez on May 30, 1972, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He grew up watching baseball and quickly became obsessed with it. When he was eight years old, his grandmother bought him a Dodgers jersey with the number 30 on the back. He still considers this to be one of his most prized possessions. Because of his father’s transfer, the family relocated to New York City in 1985. He practiced baseball near Snake Hill and frequently in Lou Gehrig’s park.
