Manny Machado began his professional career in 2012 when he was taken third overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League Baseball draft. The following year, he won his first Gold Glove Award. On August 9th, the Orioles promoted him from the double-A Bowie Baysox to the major leagues. He struck out 50 hitters and scored 24 runs near the season’s finale. In 2013, he led the major leagues with 25 doubles. He sustained an injury to his left knee on September 23 after sustaining a hard blow. As a result, he chose to have surgery on his left knee in order to minimize the danger of future dislocations. He returned the next year, having fully recovered from knee surgery.
On May 1, he swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in a doubleheader. Additionally, he aggravated an injury to his right knee while preparing for a home game against the New York Yankees. Manny was first diagnosed with a sprain, but the Baltimore Orioles revealed that he would miss the remainder of the season to undergo additional knee surgery.
