Career
Nance entered the United States Navy in 1981, specializing in naval cryptology. He joined the intelligence/counterterrorism wing and became a SERE (survival, evasion, resistance, and escape) instructor, teaching Navy and Marine Corps pilots and airmen how to live as a prisoner of war. He later became engaged in several counter-terrorism, intelligence, and combat operations, gaining skills in intelligence and counterterrorism.
He participated in the military operations that followed the 1983 assault of US and French bases in Beirut, as well as the US strike on Libya in reprisal for the 1986 West Berlin discotheque terrorist bombing. In 2001, Nance resigned from the army. Nance produced an essay called ‘Waterboarding is Torture… period’ for the counterinsurgency site Small Wars Journal in 2007, criticizing waterboarding. Since then, he has written many books, including ‘The Plot to Destroy Democracy’ in 2018 and ‘The Plot to Destroy America’ the following year.
