Malachi Nelson is the son of Eric and Naomi Nelson. Nelson’s father, a huge football lover, had a huge effect on his son to play the sport. Nelson showed early flashes of talent, with his father recalling his son having incredible arm power as early as the age of nine. When he was in seventh grade, the football prodigy earned an opportunity to play quarterback for Louisiana State University. Malachi Nelson, born December 7, 2004, is an American football quarterback who now plays for the South Carolina Trojans. Los Alamitos, California, is where the young athlete was born.
When he was in seventh school, the 18-year-old began getting scholarship offers to play collegiate football. Nelson had eight touchdowns, five interceptions, and 883 yards passing as a freshman for Los Alamitos. Furthermore, as a sophomore, he completed 73.9% of his throws for 1,513 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was also voted the Press-Telegram Player of the Year in his junior season after throwing for 2,690 yards and 39 touchdowns. Following his senior year, ESPN named the quarterback the top recruit in the country.
Before committing to Oklahoma, the young athlete had offers from various institutions, including Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and USC. Unfortunately, with the resignation of Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley, the quarterback chose to play at USC instead.
Malachi Nelson Parents
Malachi Nelson is the cherished son of Eric and Naomi Nelson. Nelson’s father, Eric, is a well-known pastor at Garden Grove’s Calvary Chapel WestGrove. For almost 20 years, the senior pastor has been married to his wife Naomi. Aside from Malachi, the couple has two other children. The mother of three seems to prefer a life away from the limelight, which is why there haven’t been many headlines about her. Meanwhile, pastor Eric recalls his poor beginnings as the only provider for his three children in California.
As a result, he was overjoyed when Nelson agreed to a name, image, and likeness (NIL) arrangement with The H.wood Group. Malachi has been a leader in the NIL field because of his father and coach, Justin J. Giangrande. The pastor acknowledged that they have kept a cautious attitude to NIL and have accepted the advice of other younger players’ parents to best navigate the new world of NIL.
Furthermore, Eric feels that rather than pursuing money, they should align themselves with the greatest team. The father-son team has a clear goal of seeing young Nelson play in the NFL. Eric, on the other hand, has benefited from his son’s additional salary. The pastor is certain that they did not steal money from their kid. Nonetheless, he is glad that his kid has gained independence.
Life After Signing NIL Contract
Following the signing of his new deal, the young quarterback moved from a 1999 Ford Escape to a 2022 Mercedes AMG GLE 53 Coupe. Nelson Sr. made a joke about how the ancient automobile, called The Dragon, would break down and refuse to start when the pastor needed to pick up his children. The pastor compliments the improvement over their untrustworthy “The Dragon.”
Furthermore, Eric confesses that his son has made several extravagant purchases since signing the contract. However, the father of three is overjoyed that his son is learning smart financial thinking. Furthermore, the pastor is happy with his 18-year-old and commends his vision and long-term investment and real estate strategy. With magnificent agreements in his grasp at the age of 18, the young footballing prodigy is a tremendous prospect that fans should keep an eye on.
