Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd of Dancing with the Stars recently revealed their painful loss experience with People, saying that they have had three miscarriages and are slowly healing from the trauma. They were married twice. On July 8, 2017, they married discreetly in a modest city hall ceremony in New York City, then later that day, in the sight of their family and friends, at Oheka Castle on Long Island, New York.

The show Dancing With the Stars Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta both experienced miscarriages.

Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd of Dancing With the Stars have been trying to have a family for quite some time. Still, the couple’s path hasn’t been easy. They met on Broadway in 2009 and fell in love during the ABC’s dance competition. So far, the couple has had three miscarriages. Murgatroyd had a miscarriage in October when her husband was in Ukraine. Murgatroyd told People in an interview about her loss:

“I didn’t have any strength.” I couldn’t get the dishwasher to open. I couldn’t open the fridge to buy some bread for (kid) Shai.”

When the dancer was hospitalized with what she thought were COVID-19 symptoms, she found her third loss. Murgatroyd discovered she was pregnant and had miscarried immediately after the diagnosis. She told the outlet, sharing her anguish:

“In the end, I had no clue (I was pregnant), which was better for my recuperation because I didn’t have that extremely joyful moment of, ‘I’m pregnant again.'”

Murgatroyd miscarried her first child while shopping at Whole Foods in 2020. She felt “totally humiliated, eventually mortified” and didn’t know “how to voice the words and have that statement come out of my mouth: I had a miscarriage.”

Her death was particularly upsetting since she is “someone who takes care of her health and fitness.” Despite “every single day” exercise, she “realized it doesn’t go hand in hand with the reproductive system.”

Even for Chmerkovskiy, the first miscarriage was traumatic. He spoke out about it, saying:

“The worst moment is when the person you love calls and says she had a miscarriage in the toilet; that’s as bad as it gets.”

The Dancing With the Stars pair had a second miscarriage at nine months. Murgatroyd spoke out about her second loss, saying:

“I had to phone him and tell him, ‘It happened again.'” This was the first time I heard him get agitated, which was difficult to hear since I know how it affects him as well.”

After years of keeping the horror hidden, the Dancing With the Stars pair decided to discuss it. Despite the defeat, Murgatroyd is not giving up. She has begun in vitro fertilization and is filled with “hope and enthusiasm” that the procedure “will succeed.”
