Authorities in West Bountiful believe Madolin Morley died as a result of a rock pillar supporting a hammock collapsing on top of her. The incident happened at 1:30 p.m. at a residence around 800 West (Onion Street) and Heritage Point Lane, according to West Bountiful police. A group of teenagers were enjoying a pool party in their backyard when an ornamental post, described as a rock pillar, toppled down and injured a 16-year-old girl.

Morley was seriously injured when the pillar collapsed and was transported to the hospital, where she died. West Bountiful Police Chief Brandon Erekson said that there was “absolutely no foul play” involved. One of the other girls in the hammock sustained minor injuries, according to authorities. The event was held at 800 West Heritage Point Lane. In a statement to KUTV 2News, Madolin’s uncle, Matt Morley, stated, “We are all saddened by the sudden loss of our sweet Madolin, a kind, caring, and bright young woman who touched countless lives.”
