Lis Wiehl was born in the Washington town of Yakima. She received her diploma from Yakima’s West Valley High School. She graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University, with a bachelor’s degree in 1983. She received her post-graduate degree MA in Literature from Queensland University in 1985.
