Letitia Ann “Tish” James, better known as Letitia James, is a lawyer, activist, and politician from the United States. New York’s current attorney general is James. In 2018, she took over for Barbara Underwood. From 2013 to 2018, James was the Public Advocate for New York City. Prior to that, she was a member of the New York City Council from 2004 to 2013.

Letitia James Biography
Letitia James was born on October 18, 1958, in New York City. She is a citizen of the United States. Her father, Robert James, and mother, Nellie James, gave birth to her. She has seven siblings. She is of African-American descent and follows the Christian faith. Park Slope, Brooklyn, is her hometown. Her astrological sign is Libra.
In terms of schooling, she attended public schools in New York City. She went on to Fort Hamilton High School. She attended the City University of New York’s Lehman College after graduating from high school, where she earned her B.A. in 1981. Career
James passed the NY bar in 1989. She was a legal aid defender. She founded Urban Network, a group of African American professional organizations that award scholarships to young people. Similarly, she was on Mario Cuomo’s Diversity Task Force. She was Albert Vann’s attorney, Roger L. Green’s chief of staff in the NYS Assembly, and Eliot Spitzer’s aide. She became the first Brooklyn AAG in 1999.
James E. Davis defeated her in 2001’s 35th Council District race. After Davis’ 2003 death, she ran against his brother Geoffrey for his Council seat. James initially lobbied for the demolition of Second Empire residences on Admiral’s Row to build a parking lot for a planned supermarket.
She joined construction unions, community groups, and other elected officials in a May 2013 Article 78 lawsuit against the Bloomberg administration and Acadia Realty Trust to close the City Point real estate project and reconsider its environmental impact.
James tried to convince BB&T, Berkshire Bank, Citizens Financial Group, People’s United Bank, Regions Financial Corporation, and TD Bank to stop financing gun manufacturers in June 2016. She served on several committees in the NYC Council. Furthermore, she chaired Economic Development and Sanitation. She served on Parks and Recreation, Small Business, Government Technology, Veteran Affairs, and Women’s Issues committees.
Moreover, she won the Democratic nomination for NYC Public Advocate in 2013. From 2013 to 2018, she was NYC Public Advocate. She ran for NYC AG in 2018. Moreover, she won the Democratic primary in September 2018 and the general election in November 2018. She replaced Barbara Underwood on 1/1/19.
In August 2020, she sued the NRA along with four department heads. The NRA countersued James over campaign statements.
Her office concluded in August 2021 that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo committed sexual harassment.
