Joanna and David Kuenssberg are her siblings. Joanna (older sister) is the U.K.’s High Commissioner to Mozambique. And her elder brother, David, is Brighton and Hove City Council’s finance and resources executive director. She came from a prosperous household. Laura Kuenssberg began her career in her hometown, working for local radio and cable television.
She joined BBC North East and Cumbria as a trainee journalist in March 2000.
After being appointed chief political correspondent for BBC News, she began reporting for BBC One bulletins, Daily Politics, and the BBC News channel. As of May 2010, her presence on BBC Television was so pervasive that journalist David Aaronovitch created the term “Kuenssbergovision” to refer to the period between the 2010 United Kingdom general election and the establishment of the Cameron–Clegg alliance. Then, in September 2011, she was appointed to the newly created position of business editor for “ITV News.” Additionally, she contributed to business reporting on ITV’s “Tonight” current affairs show. On 27 August 2013, she made her debut co-hosting “News at Ten” alongside Alastair Stewart. On 12 November 2013, it was announced that she would quit ITV to join the BBC as chief correspondent and presenter of “Newsnight,” succeeding Gavin Esler. She joined “Newsnight” in February 2014. Between the 2017 United Kingdom general election and Brexit in 2020, she also co-hosted the BBC’s “Brexitcast” podcast. It was afterward renamed the “Newscast” podcast.
