Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski, raised four sons in New York. The Duke player hails from a family of athletes, including his uncle and aunt. Kyle Filipowski, Duke’s 7-foot-tall center, was groomed to be a premier athlete from an early age. His mother gave him and his twin brother, Matt, tough love when it came to basketball. Rebecca, a brilliant athlete, is well-versed in basketball. David, the twins’ father, was a college athlete and is the more tolerant of the two parents.
Kyle has been a prominent player for Duke since joining in 2022. He has already garnered multiple awards, including the ACC Preseason Player of the Year award in 2023.
Kyle Filipowski’s Parents: Meet Rebecca and David Filipowski.
Kyle Filipowski’s parents, Rebecca and David Filipowski understand what it means to be an outstanding athlete. Rebecca and David have lived an athlete’s life and now encourage their children to be the greatest versions of themselves. Kyle’s mother, Rebecca Filipowski, was a strong athlete at Warwick High School, where she led the team to the 1982 Class B state victory. Rebecca, who is 6’4 and plays forward, scored 2,164 points in her Warwick career before entering California State University, Long Beach in 1982.
The squad advanced to the Elite 8, and Kyle had nothing but respect for his mother’s basketball career. In an interview with On3, Kyle said, “My mother, Rebecca Hagerdon, has accomplished a lot in her basketball career.” He went on to say, “She was a Parade All-American and put a ton of accolades on the wall with points and rebounds.” A severe knee injury ended Rebecca’s high-flying basketball career.
But her passion for basketball never faded. She may no longer have been able to play basketball, but she decided to teach others. She saw it as a chance to give back to the sport that had given her so much success. She started coaching Physical Education at the Washingtonville School District in 1998 and stayed there until 2003. From 2013 to 2021, she worked as a Transport Volunteer for the American Cancer Society while also serving as a long-term substitute teacher in many school systems.
Kyle Filipowski’s Dad, David Filipowski, Played Basketball and Football
Kyle Filipowski’s father, David (also known as Dave) Filipowski, played NCAA basketball and football at Slippery Rock. His playing career at Slippery Rock started in 1979 and concluded in 1981. David met his wife Rebecca while attending Warwick Valley High School. Their burgeoning relationship quickly developed into a lifetime commitment.
Kyle views his father as the more laid-back one of his parents. David was always willing to listen to his sons and raised them to be respectable young men. Their mother, on the other hand, was quite critical of the referees while her sons were playing. Kyle and his brother rapidly learned to accept constructive criticism and to take their mother’s words with a grain of salt. In short, Kyle believes their mother helped them stay disciplined. The Duke athlete claims his mother raises him and his brother to high standards and encourages them to reach their best potential.
Kyle Filipowski Family and Ethnicity: Meet His Three Brothers
Kyle Filipowski grew up in an athletic household. Kyle was born in Middletown, New York, and has a white background. The Duke athlete’s parents were not the only athletes in his family. On his mother’s side, Randall Hagerdon played basketball at Boston College, and Beverly Hagerdon attended Dartmouth from 1984 to 1988.
His uncle, Randall (also known as Randy), attended LaGrange College and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. Randall is presently a Process Engineer with Syensquo and has split from his wife, Beverly. He has moved on with Rebecca, who can be found on his Facebook page. Beverly has also moved beyond her prior relationship. Beverly earned a master’s degree in International Relations from George Washington University after graduating from Dartmouth, and she spent 20 years as a consultant for The International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
Meet Kyle Filipowski Brothers Matt Filipowski
Many people may be aware of Kyle’s twin brother, Matt (sometimes known as Matthew) Filipowski. He is presently a student at Havard University and formerly attended Wilbraham and Monson Academy. He also attended Fordham Preparatory School for one year and won All-NEPSAC accolades in 2021. Matt led his team to the 2020 NEPSAC AA title and the National Prep Tournament Elite 8, as well as reaching the 1000-point milestone.
However, only a few people who follow Kyle attentively are aware that the basketball star has two elder brothers. His elder brothers, Daniel and Taylor, have decided to remain out of the public eye. Daniel is the eldest of the four, having graduated from the University of Louisville. Daniel received a degree in Sports and Fitness Management and then attended the University of Central Florida.
He received his MBA from UCF in 2019 and now works as the NIL Partnerships Marketing Coordinator at Raymond Representation. Daniel may not have created a reputation for himself as a basketball player like his younger siblings, but still participates in the sport. Earlier this year, he offered to instruct basketball camps at Stanford University and the University of Oregon Athletic Department. Daniel is on Facebook, but Taylor has chosen not to use it.
