On July 20, almost a year after being embroiled in scandal, Hometown Cha Cha Cha star Kim Seon-ho apologized to fans once again, this time in person. At the press presentation for his play, Touching the Void, the actor apologized to his fans in a genuine and sensitive manner. He began the apology by explaining why he believed it was the correct thing to do:
“I felt that was the appropriate thing to do, so I went out first. Because I was scared, I expected to speak incoherently, so I jotted this down. With open hearts, I hope you may comprehend.”
The press conference is also his first formal public appearance since the issue. In October 2021, shortly after the season finale of Hometown Cha Cha Cha, an unidentified netizen claiming to be the actor’s ex-partner posted to a Korean online forum to accuse Kim Seon-ho of forcing her to have an abortion. The long-running debate was ultimately put to rest when the Korean news agency Dispatch refuted some of the ex-claims. Despite the positive conclusion, the Start-Up actor chose to withdraw from public life, saying goodbye to various projects, much to the chagrin of his admirers. He has just recently begun accepting new projects, the most recent being the play Touching the Void.

Kim Seonho crying at the press call while apologizing for his controversy where he HAD NO FAULT makes me SO sad. I hope he touches new heights with his new projects and it acts as a slap on his toxic ex. Always rooting for him 🥺

The actor will next be seen on stage in the drama Touching the Void, rather than on television. Based on climber Joe Simpson’s 1988 book of the same name, playwright David Greig transformed the story into a British drama. Kim Seon-ho will portray Joe Simpson, a climber who was stranded on a snowy mountain after a tragic accident, in the Korean stage adaption. The play will be staged in theaters from July 8 through September 18.
