Kevin Brooks Eastman was born in Portland, Maine on May 13, 1962. His father made tools and dies, and his mother worked as a phlebotomist. His parents divorced when he was just 9 years old. His grandma, a painter, served as his inspiration. Kevin attended Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Maine when he was younger. Steve Lavigne, a classmate of his, developed a love of comic books rather quickly. Kevin adores Jack Kirby, and Kamandi is his favorite movie. When Kevin was only five years old and his father abandoned him with his grandma, it was difficult for him. He attended Portland School of Art, and his mother later wed another guy.
