Katie Porter’s religious affiliation is Anglican/Episcopal. Porter graduated from Yale and Harvard Law Schools and has taught law at a number of universities, including the University of California, Irvine, the William S. Boyd School of Law, and the University of Iowa. She is the vice head of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and has received media attention for her probing questioning at hearings.
Porter worked as a legal assistant to Judge Richard S. Arnold of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in Little Rock, Arkansas. Katie Porter was born on January 3, 1974, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She grew up on a farm in southern Iowa. Her father, Dan Porter, was a farmer who subsequently became a banker. Liz, her mother, was instrumental in establishing Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting. Porter attended Yale University after graduating from Phillips Academy, where she majored in American studies and graduated in 1996.
Her undergraduate thesis was titled The Effects of Corporate Farming on Rural Communities. She was a member of Yale’s Grace Hopper College. Porter also served as an intern for Chuck Grassley during this period. Porter then attended Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the Board of Student Advisers and the notes editor of the Harvard Women’s Law Journal. Ms. Porter, 49, is the first opponent to be named. Ms. Feinstein refused to serve as Senate president pro tem last year after receiving harsh criticism during Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearing before the Supreme Court. She also resigned earlier this year as the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
