Karen E. Laine is a remodeling specialist who will shortly broadcast Good Bones: Better Yard 2022 on HGTV. The program will premiere on the network on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 9/8c. In Good Bones: Better Yard 2022, expert gardener Karen will follow her love of refurbishing outdoor areas in Indianapolis to their greatest potential.

Karen was a full-time lawyer before becoming a professional renovator, having worked at the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office and the legal company Jensen Law. She attended Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law and began her legal career as an associate attorney with Cohen & Malad in 1990. She then worked at a variety of different legal companies and offices until 2017, when she took a “sabbatical.”
Karen said in a 2017 interview with POPSUGAR:
“I am still a practicing attorney.” I’m on a kind of sabbatical. “I’ve gotten rid of the majority of my clients, but I still have a few.”
The Good Bones: Better Yard host’s passion for repair started when her daughter, Mina Starsiak, purchased a $37,500 dilapidated house. Mina had requested her mother to assist her in repairing the home. Karen and Mina started flipping residences in between their day jobs after this house.
Mina stated:
“Mom had a full-time job as an attorney, and I also worked full-time waiting tables, and we did this on our days off and on weekends.”
The mother-daughter team decided to make renovations to their full-time job after their third or fourth project. They founded their own remodeling firm, Two Chicks and a Hammer, in 2008. Their goal was to refurbish one property in each of their favorite neighborhoods. They also shot their first episode on a flip camera and sent it to HGTV. The show has been renewed for a full first season. The mother-daughter team made their television debut in 2016 with Good Bones. Mina stated in 2017:
“HGTV] chose us for a pilot, which aired in May of last year (2016).”
However, Karen announced her retirement from Good Bones in September 2019 to spend more time with her husband, Roger, who was diagnosed with cancer. On Good Bones: Better Yard 2022, the star is once again picking up a sledgehammer to renovate the outdoor spaces.
In Good Bones: Better Yard 2022, Karen surprises a young couple with a yard makeover.
Karen will assist a young couple who will soon become parents with a yard makeover in the show’s premiere episode, titled A Forever Yard. The young couple’s backyard is in disrepair and infested with rodents, poison ivy, and dead trees. Because of the yard, the couple had considered selling their home. Karen and her expert team, on the other hand, save their home by creating a multi-purpose outdoor oasis for the family. The episode’s official synopsis is as follows:
“As a result, there will be an enchanting yard with distinct areas for playing and entertaining, as well as a kitchen, fireplace, basketball court, and secret garden.”
