Julio Iglesias Sr., his father, was a well-known gynecologist who died in 2005, and his mother, Maria del Rosario de la Cueva y Perignat, died in 2002. Around 1983, his parents divorced. Julio Iglesias studied law at Madrid’s Universidad CEU San Pablo while also playing football. He was also the goalkeeper for Real Madrid Castilla.
