Julian and his identical twin brother, Joaquin Castro, were born to Jessie Guzman and Maria Rosie Castro on July 28, 2014. Rossie was a founding member of the Chicago political party La Raza Unida and ran for San Antonio City Council in 1971.

Both of the brothers followed in the footsteps of their mother. His one-minute younger brother, Julian, is also a political activist, and Joaquin is the current United States Representative.

Julian excelled in their studies as well as in sports such as basketball, tennis, and football. He even had a collection of trading cards. First, Julian graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and went on to Stanford University, where he discovered his political potential.
